"Reflections of
Independence"
Emily has chosen the Morris Lighthouse located on
Folly Beach in South Carolina. The National
Society will raise funds to aid in the restoration of
this historic lighthouse. Phase I of the restoration
project is complete and Phase II is expected to
begin by the end of 2009.
The Morris Island Lighthouse is located about 300
yards off shore on the island of Folly Beach. At
one time it was located on land, but is currently
completely surrounded by water.
The "Save the Light" project to restore his historic
lighthouse is a multi-million dollar project, with
several phases. Phase II of the project which is set
to begin by the end of 2009 will work on the base
of the lighthouses and the piling foundation to make
sure that it is sound and will last for many years to
come. The project will jet grout the area located
under the lighthouse and fill any voids between the
base and the pilings.
