National President Benjamin A. Hinckley (Texas) has chosen for his project to raise funds for the restoration of the Great Essentials exhibit at Independence Hall.
Located in the West Wing of Independence Hall, the Great Essentials Exhibit displays surviving copies of the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution of the United States, along with the silver inkstand that, according to tradition, was used during the signing of the Declaration and Constitution.
After 10 years of continuous operation, the Great Essentials exhibit requires an upgrade, which the National President’s Project will assist in funding. The repairs and restoration of the Great Essentials case will ensure that these important documents will continue to be available to all Americans. It is hoped that they will experience a direct connection to our past by viewing the actual documents of our nation’s founding.
The N.S.C.A.R. will have a donor plaque placed alongside the exhibit, and will be recognized as a sponsor on the Independence National Park web site. An average of 1 million people view this exhibit each year. For more information about Independence Hall, please visit http://www.friendsofindependence.org/.
